There are several different options available to people with a disability. Read the following information to ensure you travel with the correct myki card type, the most suitable myki product and valid proof of concession entitlement.
To access these travel entitlements, such as concession fares or free weekend travel, you need to obtain a myki card.
Concession myki
Concession myki – for Disability Support Pensioners and Carer Payment Recipients
Disability Support Pensioners and Carer Payment Recipients (DSP/CAR) are eligible for concession fares and free weekend travel.
You should apply for a concession myki specifically for Disability Support Pensioners and Carer Payment Recipients using the Free Weekend Travel Application Form. Do not purchase a standard concession myki as this will not allow you to access your free travel entitlement.
Free Weekend Travel Application Forms are available at staffed Metro Premium stations, the PTV Hub at Southern Cross Station (near entrance at Collins and Spencer streets) or online.
Your DSP/CAR concession myki automatically applies your concession and free travel entitlements. myki automatically charges you a concession fare when you touch on and touch off during the week. myki automatically provides you with free travel in two consecutive zones, for example Zones 1 and 2, on the weekend. You pay nothing for travel in metropolitan Melbourne (Zones 1 and 2) on Saturdays and Sundays.
Proof of entitlement
Please note, you must carry a valid Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card with the codes ‘DSP’ or ‘CAR’ when you travel with your concession myki. This is proof of your concession entitlement.
Do I need to apply for Free Weekend Travel?
Yes, if you are:
- a Disability Support Pensioner
- a Carer Payment Recipient.

Free Travel Passes
The PTV Pass Office issues the following free travel passes relevant to people with a disability for use on Victoria’s public transport network:
Access Travel Pass
The Access Travel Pass is for people with a significant permanent disability who travel independently on Victoria’s public transport network and can demonstrate that due to their disability they cannot use the ticketing system.
To be eligible for the Access Travel Pass you must:
- have a significant permanent disability
- be able to travel independently on Victoria’s public transport network (without assistance from a carer or companion)
- be unable to touch on or touch off your myki independently
- be a permanent resident of Victoria.
The Access Travel Pass entitles the pass holder to free travel on Victoria’s public transport network. It is valid for travel without being touched on and off – simply show it to public transport staff upon request.
In some instances, a person may hold a Companion Card and an Access Travel Pass.

Scooter and Wheelchair Travel Pass
The Scooter and Wheelchair Travel Pass is for people with a permanent and severe disability who depend on the use of a scooter or wheelchair for mobility outside of their home.
To be eligible for a Scooter and Wheelchair Travel Pass you must:
- have a severe permanent disability (being for the term of your life and not expected to improve)
- depend on the use of a scooter or wheelchair for mobility outside your home
- be a permanent resident of Victoria.
The Scooter and Wheelchair Travel Pass entitles the pass holder to free travel on Victoria’s public transport network. This pass must be touched on and touched off to be valid for travel.
In some instances, a person may hold a Multi Purpose Taxi Program Card, a Companion Card and a Scooter and Wheelchair Travel Pass.

Vision Impaired Travel Pass
The Vision Impaired Travel Pass is for people who are legally blind (as defined in the Social Security Act 1991).
The Vision Impaired Travel Pass entitles the pass holder to free travel on Victoria’s public transport network. It is valid for travel without being touched on and off – simply show it to public transport staff upon request.
In some instances, a person may hold a Multi Purpose Taxi Program Card, a Companion Card and a Vision Impaired Travel Pass.

Carer Card
The Carer Card is issued by the Victorian Department of Human Services (DHS) to eligible Victorian residents who are carers. Carer Card holders are eligible for free travel on Sundays on metropolitan train, tram and bus services (Zones 1 + 2) and on regional town bus services.
Please note: the Metcard Sunday Pass will no longer be valid for travel from first service on Saturday, 29 December 2012. All metropolitan Sunday Pass holders must have a specially encoded myki to receive free Sunday travel.
Carer Card holders who already have a myki may apply for refund of the remaining balance by
completing a myki Refund and Reimbursement Form.
Applying for free Sunday travel
To access free travel on metropolitan services Carer Card holders must purchase a specially-encoded myki, available at metropolitan Premium Stations by showing their Carer Card.
Carer Card holders can request a full fare or concession myki. To purchase a concession myki, you must a resident of Victoria and have a valid concession card, see concessions.
When buying your myki, you must present your DHS Carer Card to station booking office staff to receive the free Sunday travel benefit.
Victorian Seniors Card holders, Disability Support Pensioners and Carer Payment recipients are now eligible for a free myki which contains a free weekend travel entitlement. For more information, see free weekend travel.
How to travel on Sundays
On metropolitan services, your myki will automatically give you free travel on Sunday within Zones 1 and 2 when you touch on and touch off.
On regional town bus services, you should show your Carer Card on Sundays to access free travel.
When using your free travel entitlements on metropolitan trains, trams and buses, you must also carry proof of eligibility ie. a Carer Card and a concession card if applicable.

Other travel entitlements available for people with a disability
Companion Card
The Department of Planning and Community Development issue a Companion Card to people with a significant and permanent disability who require the assistance of a companion.
It entitles the carer/companion of the cardholder to free travel on Victoria’s public transport network.

Multi Purpose Taxi Program card
The Multi Purpose Taxi Program card is issued to people with a severe and permanent disability by the Victorian Taxi Directorate, a division of the Department of Transport.
Multi Purpose Taxi Program card holders are eligible for half prices taxi fares.
