I am a student – which myki do I need?
Students can obtain either a concession myki or a child myki, depending on your circumstances. Proof of entitlement is required to travel with a concession myki.

You should consider using a concession myki if:

• you are eligible to use the Victorian Public Transport Student Concession Card (VPT card) (primary, secondary and tertiary students) as proof of entitlement*
• you are a primary or secondary school student wishing to obtain a half-yearly or yearly Student Pass (see Student Pass tab)
• you have a Victorian Health Care Card.

* You can receive a free concession myki at a staffed Metro Premium station or staffed V/Line station when you complete a Victorian Public Transport Student Concession Card and Student Pass Application Form.

You should consider getting a child myki if:

• you are aged 4 to 16 years and do not wish to travel with a Student Pass.

Where do I get my myki?
You can obtain your concession myki from a staffed Metro Premium station or staffed a V/Line station if:

• you require a VPT card as proof of concession entitlement (primary, secondary or tertiary students)
• you wish to obtain a Student Pass (primary or secondary students).

You can receive a free concession myki at a staffed Metro Premium station or staffed V/Line station when you complete a Victorian Public Transport Student Concession Card and Student Pass Application Form.

You can obtain your child or concession myki from all sale channels if:

• you are aged 4 to 16 years and do not wish to travel with a Student Pass
• you are aged 17 years or over and have a Victorian Health Care Card as proof of your concession entitlement.

Child and concession myki cards cost $3.00.

Proof of concession entitlement
When travelling with a concession myki, you must carry proof of concession entitlement.

Eligibility criteria for students wishing to travel on a concession myki are detailed on the Victorian Public Transport Student Concession Card and Student Pass Application Form.

Victorian Public Transport (VPT) Student Concession Card
A VPT card is your proof of entitlement to travel on a concession fare on metropolitan trains, trams and buses, V/Line trains and regional town buses.

Primary, Secondary, Tertiary and Tertiary Half-Yearly VPT cards are available by completing a Victorian Public Transport Student Concession Card and Student Pass Application Form.

You need a Primary or Secondary VPT card to travel with a Student Pass.

Eligibility criteria are detailed on the Victorian Public Transport Student Concession Card and Student Pass Application Form. These forms are available and must be lodged at:

• staffed Metro Premium stations
• staffed V/Line stations and some V/Line ticket agents.

A $9.00 fee applies when obtaining a VPT card.

Victorian Health Care Card
If you are aged 17 years or over and have been issued a Victorian Health Care Card by Centrelink, this can be used as proof of concession entitlement. You do not need to apply for a VPT card.

Student Pass
A Student Pass provides great savings for regular travellers. Students who have a concession myki with the passenger code 'Student' can simply add a 2013 Student Pass to their existing myki. Alternatively, you can get your Student Pass by downloading and completing a Victorian Public Transport Student Concession Card and Student Pass Application Form.This form is also available at:

• staffed Metro Premium stations
• staffed V/Line stations and some V/Line ticket agents.

If you are a primary or secondary school student with a VPT card, you can purchase a Student Pass. The pass can either be loaded onto your existing concession myki if it has the passenger code 'Student', or loaded directly onto a free concession myki when you apply for it at a staffed Metro Premium station or staffed V/Line station.

The Student Pass and your VPT card should be shown to public transport staff on request when travelling on services where myki equipment is not yet installed.

Student Passes are only available for certain zones and come as Yearly, First Half Yearly and Second Half Yearly passes.

When should I purchase a Student Pass?
A Student Pass is different to a myki pass because a Student Pass expires on a specific date, no matter when it is purchased or when it is first activated. For example, a Yearly Student Pass purchased and activated on 10 June 2013 will expire on 28 February 2014.

Validity dates for Student Pass
First Half Yearly: 1 January 2013 – 31 July 2013

Second Half Yearly: 1 July 2013 – 28 February 2014

Yearly: 1 January 2013 – 28 February 2014

Which Student Pass should I get?
There are two types of Student Pass available. Choosing the most suitable pass depends on where you intend to travel. The two options are:

Victorian Student Pass
The Victorian Student Pass (Half Yearly or Yearly) gives you unlimited travel on:

• metropolitan trains, trams and buses
• regional town buses
• V/Line trains and coaches operating wholly within Victoria.

Regional Transit Student Pass

The Regional Transit Student Pass lets you travel on all buses and V/Line trains within your chosen transit system.

What happens if my myki stops working, or is lost/stolen?
Replacing a concession myki loaded with a Student Pass requires a different process to other myki users. Registered customers can protect their card balance from the moment they report their myki lost or stolen to the myki call centre or via their myki online account.

To replace a concession myki loaded with a Student Pass, which was issued with a VPT card, you must return to the same location where your myki and/or VPT card were issued. You will need to complete and lodge a myki Replacement Form.

If you hold a Secondary or Tertiary VPT card and you need to replace your concession myki, which is not loaded with a Student Pass, you can visit any staffed Metro Premium station or the PTV Hub at Southern Cross Station (near entrance at Collins and Spencer streets).

If you use a concession myki and have another form of concession entitlement, for example, Victorian Health Care Card, the replacement process depends on your circumstances. Find out more about how to replace a concession or child myki .

If your concession status changes, for example, concession to full fare or child to concession, you can exchange your myki card for free at:

• the PTV Hub at Southern Cross Station (near entrance at Collins and Spencer streets)

To receive a refund of any remaining value, you will need to complete a myki Refund and Reimbursement Form and enclose your old myki card. You can choose to have any remaining balance transferred to another myki or your choice, or choose to receive a refund of any remaining balance via cheque within 21 business days.
