myki card types

You can choose from two types of myki, anonymous and registered.

What is an anonymous myki?
You do not need to register your details to obtain and use an anonymous myki (you only need to provide sufficient details to allow the card to be posted out to you if purchased via the website or call centre – your details will then be removed). You will not be able to view your transaction history online with an anonymous myki. An anonymous myki can be registered at any time.

Please note, an anonymous myki is not available for some categories of cardholders as entitlement needs to be verified. These include:

• Free Travel Pass holders
• Students requiring a student pass
• Commuter Club members (with a 365-day myki pass)
• Disability Support Pensioners & Carer Payment Recipients under 60
• Victorian War Veterans / War Widows 

However, should you wish to remain anonymous, you can always purchase an anonymous full fare or concession myki to travel ($7 or $10 card fee applies).

What is a registered myki?
A registered myki offers you the benefit of balance protection (for myki money and myki pass) should your myki be reported as lost or stolen (an admin fee applies to replace a lost or stolen myki). In addition, you can set up an online account, view your travel and transaction history and set auto top up. You also have the option to personalise your myki with your name when purchased online or using a myki Registration Form.

Can I register an anonymous myki?

An anonymous myki can be registered at any time. This can be done:

• Online
• By downloading, completing and lodging a myki Registration Form
• By obtaining, completing and lodging a myki Registration Form from The Metshop, the Southern Cross discovery centre, Metro Premium Stations or selected VLine stations
• By calling 13 myki (13 6954)

Note: A registered myki is no longer anonymous. Once registered, you can not change the card back to anonymous.

Note: If you purchase an anonymous myki online or through the call centre, you will need to provide your postal details. These details will be deleted within 30 days of the myki being mailed to you.
