Seniors
If you get a senior’s concession fare now, your entitlements will stay the same with myki.
To travel with a seniors myki, you must carry a valid Victorian Seniors Card when you travel as this is proof of your concession entitlement.
If you are eligible for a Victorian Seniors Card, but do not currently have one, click here.
With myki the benefits are clear
Once you have myki in your pocket, you will feel the difference right away. You don't have to find loose change for the ticket machine every time you travel. You also don't have to ponder which ticket to buy because it is always cheaper to use your senior’s myki instead of concession short-term tickets.
Attention - Seniors who hold a Sunday Pass
If you currently hold, or have applied for, a Sunday Pass, you will receive a seniors myki containing your new Sunday Pass in the mail after myki is launched on Melbourne's trams and buses. These will be mailed out progressively and commencement of the mailout will be publicised.
Attention - Seniors who do not hold a Sunday Pass
If you do not hold a Sunday Pass, you can apply for a Sunday Pass here. You will be issued with a Sunday Pass to use until you receive your Seniors myki in the mail once myki is fully rolled out across Melbourne’s public transport network. These will be mailed out progressively and commencement of the mailout will be publicised.
Sunday Pass
Your seniors myki will automatically contain a Sunday Pass, which entitles you to free travel on Sundays within two consecutive zones (e.g. Zones 1 and 2).
You must have a positive myki money balance for the Sunday Pass to work ($0.01 or more). If your myki money balance is zero or negative you will be unable to touch on, and you must top up again before you can access your free travel entitlement.
Seniors Daily Cap
With myki money, you will never pay more than the Seniors Daily Cap for travel in Melbourne. So if you are travelling with your senior’s myki in Zones 1 and 2, you will be charged $3.30; whereas if you bought a daily concession short-term ticket, you would pay $5.60. That is a saving of $2.30 simply by using your senior’s myki.
In fact, no matter what zone(s) you travel in, or how long you travel for in a day, you will always be better off using myki instead of concession short-term tickets.
Victorian Seniors Card Holders
Please carry your Victorian Seniors Card as proof of your concession entitlement. A Commonwealth Seniors Health Care Card does not qualify you for a concession. To apply for a Victorian Seniors Card, click here.
Seniors from other Australian states or territories
If you are visiting from interstate, please buy a general concession myki and carry your Seniors Card when travelling as proof of your concession entitlement.
