What types of myki are available for students?
Students can obtain either a child myki or a concession myki depending on their circumstances.
Who can get a myki online? How much does it cost?
Students who are eligible to receive a child myki (16 years and under) and do not require a Student Pass, or who are 17 years or over and eligible for a concession myki using a Victorian Health Care Card as proof of their concession entitlement, can apply online. The standard myki card fee for a child or concession myki is $7.
Who needs to apply for their myki at a Station? How much does it cost?
Primary and secondary school students, wishing to obtain a Student Pass, or those needing to use the Victorian Public Transport Student Concession Card (including tertiary students) as proof of their concession entitlement, will need to apply at either a metropolitan Premium Station, the MetShop, or a staffed V/Line station to receive a free concession myki. However, the standard $9 fee applies for a VPT Concession Card application.
Please note, a 2009 VPT Student Concession Card can not be used to obtain a concession myki.
I’m 17 and don’t want a student pass. Can I get a myki?
If you are a student aged 17 and over, and want to travel without a Student Pass, you will get a free myki when you complete and lodge your 2010 Victorian Public Transport Student Concession Card and myki Student Registration Form. You must carry proof of concession entitlement when travelling.
Proof of entitlement for students
Eligibility criteria has not changed due to introduction of myki.
Victorian Public Transport (VPT) Student Concession Card
-
You can apply for a VPT Student Concession Card by completing a Victorian Public Transport Student Concession Card and Student Pass Application Form. From January 2010 onwards, these will be available at metropolitan Premium Stations, the MetShop, staffed V/Line Stations and selected V/Line ticket agents (a $9 application fee applies). You'll also be able to download the form online.
-
You must lodge your application form at one of the above-mentioned locations.
-
Once you have your VPT Student Concession Card, you may be eligible to buy a Student Pass.
Victorian Health Care Card
If you are 17 and over (not travelling with a Student Pass) and have been issued a Victorian Health Care Card by Centrelink, you can also use it as proof of entitlement. You do not need to apply for a VPT Student Concession Card to travel on a concession fare.
Student Pass
If you are eligible for a Primary or Secondary VPT Student Concession Card, you are eligible for a Student Pass. The pass is now loaded directly onto a concession myki when you buy it.
Student Passes are only available for certain zones and come as Yearly, 1st half year and 2nd half year passes.
The type of Student Pass you need depends on your travel area:
-
The Victorian Student Pass gives you unlimited travel on metropolitan trains, trams and buses, on all regional town bus services and all V/Line train and coach services operating wholly within Victoria.
-
Regional Transit Student Passes are valid for unlimited travel on buses on either the Geelong, Ballarat or Bendigo transit bus systems and limited V/Line rail services.
You can get your Student Pass by completing a Victorian Public Transport Student Concession Card and Student Pass Application Form (see above).
Prices for Student Passes are outlined in the myki Fares and Ticketing Manual.
