Online top up
Top up before you travel so you can pay for your trip. Top up with either myki money or myki pass.
You can make a one-off top up or set up auto top up.
You should allow at least 24 hours for an online top up to process.
An online top up is only added to your myki card when you touch on at a myki reader or use a myki machine. This is because your myki card needs to interact physically with the system.
Instant top up is available by using a myki machine, visiting a myki retail outlet or topping up via the bus driver on regional town buses.
Infrequent travellers may prefer to top up just before they travel using a myki machine or at a retail outlet.
Important note
If you do not use your myki within 90 days of topping up online or via the call centre, your top up is temporarily suspended. Any existing value on your myki card is unaffected and remains available to use for travel. If your myki card balance is low, you may need to top up at a myki machine or retail outlet to pay for your next trip.
Infrequent travellers may prefer to top up just before they travel using a myki machine or at a retail outlet.
Your online or telephone top up comes out of suspension at least 24 hours after you:
- successfully touch on at a myki reader (requires a positive myki money balance)
- top up at a myki machine (minimum $1.00)
- top up at a retail outlet (minimum $1.00 cash).
The following examples explain how an online or telephone top up can become suspended. They also show how the amount of myki money credit currently stored on your myki card affects your ability to travel while waiting for a suspended top up.
Example 1:
- Your myki card has a balance of $0.00 and you complete an online top up of $10.00 on 14 March.
- You must touch on at a myki reader or use a myki machine within 90 days to add the $10.00 to your myki.
- If not, your top up is temporarily suspended.
- You will need to top up at a myki machine or retail outlet before your next trip.
- At least 24 hours later, your $10.00 online top up is available for a further 90 days.
- Once again, you must touch on at a myki reader or use a myki machine within 90 days to add the $10.00 to your myki, or your top up will be suspended.
Example 2:
- Your myki card has a balance of $5.00 and you complete an online top up of $10.00 on 14 March.
- You must touch on at a myki reader or use a myki machine within 90 days to add the $10.00 to your myki.
- If not, your top up is temporarily suspended.
- However, you still have $5.00 on your myki card and can use this to pay for your next trip.
- At least 24 hours after you successfully touch on and travel, your $10.00 online top up is available for a further 90 days.
- Once again, you must touch on at a myki reader or use a myki machine within 90 days to add the $10.00 to your myki, or your top up will be suspended.
