Privacy
What personal information is stored on the myki?
No personal information (apart from your name if you choose to have it printed on your card) is stored on your myki. The only information stored on your myki is the myki money balance and/or myki pass details, recent travel history and your last ten transactions.
If you register your myki, your personal information is stored in the back office and is kept secure.
Will my personal information be protected and secure on the myki system?
Yes, we understand and respect your right to privacy and we are committed to privacy protection. The Information Privacy Act 2000 and TTA’s Privacy Policy regulate how we collect and handle your personal information.

What information can Authorised Officers (ticket inspectors) access via hand held device?
Your myki does not store your name (unless printed on the card) or address, it only stores value (in the form of myki money or a travel pass), a brief recent travel history and any concession details (Seniors, Child, DSP/CAR, etc) to ensure the correct fare can be calculated.
Authorised officers will have a Hand Held Device (similar to a PDA) that is able to read this information on your myki or to check a short term ticket to ensure customers are travelling with a valid ticket.
Authorised officers will have limited access to customers’ personal information in back office systems for the sole purpose of investigating alleged offences, and reporting them to the Department of Transport for further action.

Who can access my information and when can they access it?
Public Transport Authorities will use and disclose personal information for the operation of myki, to verify entitlement to concession travel and for ticketing enforcement.

The circumstances under which personal information may be disclosed to third parties for non-transport related purposes are:
- where required to do so by law (e.g. in response to a warrant or subpoena)
- to lessen or prevent a serious threat to the life, health, safety or welfare of one or more people
- for the purposes of complaint handling (e.g. for disclosure to the Public Transport Ombudsman or the Privacy Commissioner)
- where requested in writing by the individual concerned
- where an authorised senior police officer certifies that the disclosure is reasonably necessary for the enforcement of the criminal law
- when investigating or reporting suspected unlawful activity detected by TTA or its contractors
- in exceptional circumstances – to intelligence and national security agencies.
