How will I use myki?

1. Purchase and add value to myki

When myki comes to Victoria later in 2007, you will purchase it from:

  • train stations
  • Card Vending Machines (CVMs) at train stations and tram super stops
  • myki.com.au
  • myki info line
  • network of retail outlets, including 7-Eleven

Once you purchase myki, it will be yours to keep for up to four years. And you can add value to it for the first time.

myki will store this value for you and automatically deduct each trip fare as you travel. This stored value will be your balance, which you can check anytime as you travel.

2. Scan on. Scan off.

myki is simple to use. Every time you travel by public transport you will scan on with myki at a card reader at the station gate or near the vehicle door. Instantly the system recognises that you are on board. At the end of your  journey, scan off with myki to finalise your trip details. This will ensure the Best Fare is calculated automatically for your travel.

myki is safe because it can stay inside wallets or purses whilst being scanned, and it eliminates the need to pay with cash – no more juggling with coins.

3. Check balance

You can view your transaction history along the way when you scan off or via myki check balance machines . You can also view a statement of your last 10 trips at Card Vending Machines (CVMs) and myki check balance machines. And if your card is registered, you can check your statement online or by phone.

4. Top up

As you travel with myki, you will need to top up your stored value along the way.

When myki comes to Victoria, you will have many options to top up with ease, including at:

  • train stations
  • Card Vending Machines (CVMs) at train stations and tram super stops
  • network of retail outlets, including 7-Eleven
  • myki.com.au
  • myki info line

Plus, with myki you can also arrange for auto top up so your card will always be topped up for your next journey.
